Tree Plantation at Garbage Dumping Site - Sector 35, Kamothe (July 2026)
On 26th July 2026, in heavy monsoon rain, 6 Kasley Foundation volunteers showed up at Sector 35, Kamothe — a stretch that had long been abandoned to garbage, restaurant waste, and civic neglect.
They left 26 trees behind.
This patch of land had become a dumping ground. Rather than complaining, the team picked up spades, wore gloves, and chose to change what the land says about us.
What was done in July 2026:
- 26 trees planted along the roadside stretch at Sector 34 Seaface, Kamothe (GPS: 19.018135, 73.085783)
- Garbage cleared from around each planting spot by hand
- Water basins created at the base of each tree for monsoon water retention
- All work completed in continuous heavy rain — zero delays
What Happened Next — The Outcome
After the plantation, it became clear that without physical protection, continued dumping would destroy the trees. Kasley Foundation took the next step — formal representation to all responsible authorities.
On 12 August 2026, Kasley Foundation submitted formal letters to:
- Divisional Forest Officer / Deputy Conservator of Forests, Maharashtra Forest Department, Panvel — requesting 8-foot heavy-duty metallic fencing and jurisdictional inspection
- Sub-Regional Officer, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Raigad-I, CBD Belapur — requesting action against repeated illegal dumping
- Municipal Commissioner, Panvel Municipal Corporation — requesting priority fencing installation to protect the site and trees planted by citizens
All three letters cited GPS coordinates, volunteer photographs, and the plantation activity as evidence of citizen investment in the area.
The Result
Following these representations, Panvel Municipal Corporation took action. The corporation cleaned the entire garbage dumping site and is now in the process of installing a green protective net to prevent further dumping and safeguard the trees planted by our volunteers.
This outcome demonstrates that citizen action, when documented and formally represented to the right authorities, can produce real change. 26 trees. 3 letters. One cleaned site. One community making a difference.
